Marie Fjeldsted begins her music year 2023 on January 27th with the new single ‘Never Lost, Never Won’. In a chorus-based and extrovert soundimage she establishes that she has found a new creative space to investigate and explore new sounds and melodies.
 


Marie Fjeldsted has ever since she stepped out on the Danish music scene been a distinctive voice. Her warm and delicate vocal and her insistence on expressing vulnerability with kindness has resonated with listeners both at home and abroad. 
 


2022 was a year of transformation for Marie as she went from calling herself Penny Police to step out of the epidemic shadow and for the first releasing music under her own name with enough songs to release an album.



The new album is slated for a summer release and will be titled ‘Keep it Alive’ – the first under her birth name.

‘Never Lost, Never Won’ is like most songs from the upcoming album written during the lockdown, while Marie at the same time was on maternity leave. While the pandemic for some people was a pillow of limitations, for Marie it set her free, creatively.



Along with her partner, Linus Klestrup Larsen, they built and put up a studio in their bedroom and found it to come with a musical liberty and lightness.



For Marie it became the start of a completely different process that she was used to work within. Where the way from an idea to recording it normally is very long and time consuming, now she was able to test and try out new ideas instantly... pretty much. And the free space with room to play with ideas and songlines can definetely be heard in the new set of songs. 


”Whenever I share the writing process with Linus, it quite often happens the music and the lyrics come together as a whole when we record it, which to me is a total game changer. I have needed, for some time, to challenge the workaholic that I have inside me and this way of working challenges my creativity in a totally different way. Insead of sitting alone in the studio messing around with some piano chords and really hanging on to my melancholy things now happen more spontaneously. It is fun, and it is something I have felt the need to do for some time”. Marie explains.



‘Never Lost, Never Won’ is an extrovert pop song and just like everything Marie touches it is brimming with musical excess.
