about

Marie Fjeldsted is ready with her third single this year which is the titel song from her upcoming album; Keep It Alive. With its persistent bassmelody, a rough soundscape and Marie’s sensitive vocal perfomance ‘Keep It Alive is a song about keeping hope alive, when life is at its most difficult times.

2022 has been a year of transformation for Marie Fjeldsted. She has dropped her alias Penny Police. She has become a mother for the second time and she has stepped out of the pandemic with a new album ready for release.

"While Penny Police's music was always pure and intimate, Marie Fjeldsted’s compositions touch the heart and soul even more."
(Good Because Danish on ‘Occasionally’)

The second single from her album ‘Occasionally’ was released in June and is still on heavy rotation on Danish National Radio P6 Beat.‘Occasionally’ was about finding and making peace with your own changes in a world of constant change. New single ‘Keep It Alive’ deals with some of the same thematics and takes us with inside an inner battle. The feeling of being knocked out, used up and finding your way through the basic survival skills.

"It feels like we are getting a little closer to the artist Marie Fjeldsted." (side33)

"Keep It Alive is the titel track from my new album. It is about keeping life alive even though some days and struggles can seem impossible to overcome. Giving birth to another child suddenly made me feel knocked over feeling inadequate, like I did not have enough to give. It is about forgiving yourself and letting go.

About not letting yourself surrender in the hardest of times. It is impossible to be in constant control and sometimes you just have to let go, breathe in and do whatever it takes and remember that tomorrow is another day and another chance to make things right”, Marie says.

The song is, like most of the songs from the upcoming album, written during the pandemic lockdown while Marie was on paternity leave, Both she and her partner Linus Klestrup was working from home for a long period of time, so they ended up turning the bedroom into a recording studio and could create music together whenever inspiration came and when the baby was asleep.

Keep It Alive is strong in its honest musical rawness, beautiful in its sensitive poetry and touching it its simple delivery of a message for the difficult days:

”I am here, I am breathing and right now that is all I can expect of myself.”

‘Keep It Alive’ will be released October 7.

The album with he same title is slated for a May 2023 release.

lyrics

My dear boy, I'll be right there
I just need a minute, a minute to grasp
(hearts to feed, broken dreams)

I try to wrap my head around this change
I'm here and I'm breathing, guess that's what it takes

Try to let it in, try to let out, try
Try to keep it alive
Try to let it in, try to let out, try

I'm gonna pour from an empty cup
Bend and I'll stretch 'till it's still not enough
(hearts to feed, broken dreams,
hearts to feed, broken dreams)

Try to let it in, try to let out, try
Try to keep it alive
Try to let it in, try to let out, try
